As WAIPA’s flagship event continues, focus turns to digital technology, localizing value chains and forging global partnerships
Riyadh — The second day of the 28th World Investment Conference (WIC) brought together leaders from across the investment spectrum to discuss digital transformation and growth within key sectors.
Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and together with host Invest Saudi, the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies is holding its annual gathering in Riyadh November 25-27, 2024. The official theme is “Harnessing Digital Transformation and Sustainable Growth”.
Day 2 of the event included sessions on public-private partnerships, localized value chains and the role of technology in global investment.
Key Highlights from Day 2:
Session on Technology and Investment: Speakers highlighted how advanced technologies, including AI and data analytics, are reshaping investment promotion strategies.
Public-Private Partnerships Panel: Explored innovative models for collaboration in agriculture, health, and education.
COP29 Roundtable: Focused on integrating COP29 outcomes into sustainable finance and investment strategies.
WAIPA General Assembly: WAIPA members gathered to review the achievements and activities of the past year, plan for the year ahead and carry out administrative business. Business Advisory Board members Dr Caroline King, Global Head of Business Development & Corporate Affairs for SAP, and Dr Trevor Gunn, Vice President of International Affairs for Medtronic, addresessed the assembly, each highlighting the importance of collaboration and dialogue between investment promotion agencies and the business community.
“WAIPA made great strides this year, adding 24 new members and continually expanding our capacity-building, training and other support programs for our members — all the while guided by our dedication to helping investment promotion agencies achieve their highest potential,” said WAIPA CEO and Executive Director Ismail Ersahin. “We look forward to an even more active and effective program in 2025 and beyond.”
WIC 2024 will continue tomorrow, focusing on global investment opportunities, special economic zones and sustainable tourism.
