26th World Investment Conference Opening Ceremony

Opening Remarks | #WIC22

Mr. Indra Darmawan, Deputy Minister for Investment Planning, Ministry of Investment/BKPM, Indonesia

“It is imperative for us to discuss what to do next: What are the strategies that can help International Investment Decision-making Processes, to move forward, and that’s clearly a million-dollar question, and nobody pretends to have all the answers.”: Mr. Indra Darmawan, Deputy Minister for Investment Planning, Ministry of Investment/BKPM, Indonesia

Some other excerpts from the talk:

  1. We need peace now more than ever. We can’t move forward by building resilience in Global Value Chains or robust investment climate, without it (peace). We also observe that the appetite of the investor towards risk, is low nowadays. They want to play safe. We, in Indonesia want to invite a more value-additive investment, leveraging on our network resource endowments, and together with countries like Vietnam and Thailand, we have welcomed relocated production from China and enjoyed the benefits of doing so.
  2. Geo-politics focuses on shifting balance and rising tensions among nations. The global investment climate and their business practices are no exception. Geo-politics influence the flow of capital and factors of production, changing the way supply chains flow and interact. I believe that geo-politics plays one of the most significant roles in the movement of production factors among countries.
